Day 4

Day 4:

Your wagon train has finally arrived at Fort Kearny. This fort is located in Nebraska which is NW from where you started the journey in Independence. At this fort your wagon train will be able to purchase food, more supplies, and use a mail service. As many as 2,000 emigrants on the road to Oregon will pass through this fort every day.

After spending one day at Fort Kearny, your wagon train will start moving towards the next stop at Fort Laramie. Your wagon train has come across a river when leaving the fort. In your wagon trains you must decide what you will do:

Scenario 1: All of the wagons in your wagon train will take the long route which avoids the river which could cause water damage to your wagon and supplies. However, taking the long route will add 10 hours to your travel time which could be dangerous for your animals and family because it may take up energy and you will have to use more food and supplies.

Scenario 2: All of the wagons in your wagon train will take the short route which crosses the river. This will save your wagon train 10 hours of travel time. However, the river might be too deep to cross so you would have to head back. Also, your wagon and supplies may be damaged from the water.

Which scenario will you choose as a group? Make a blog post titled River Scenario. Question: Why did your group decide on the scenario? What is good about this route you decided on? What is dangerous about the route you chose?
