Your wagon train has made it half-way to Oregon! Your wagon train will stop at Fort Bridger to rest, eat, and get supplies.
During the long journey on the Oregon Trail, many pioneers had a fear of the Native American Indians. Many people had heard stories that the Indians would attack the pioneers if they passed through their land. There had also been stories that the Indians were very kind and would offer food and assistance to pioneers who passed through. Many pioneers traded knives, clothes, food, and personal items for moccasins and buffalo robes. The Cheyenne and Pawnee were the most well known Indian tribes at the time.
Once your wagon train leaves Fort Bridger you come across an Indian tribe. In your wagon trains you must decide what you will do:
Scenario 1: Your wagon train will approach the tribe and ask if they want to trade some of your belongings for food and moccasins. There is a chance that the tribe may feel threatened by your wagon train when you approach and they might attack. However, the Indians may be peaceful and you will benefit from the trade.
Scenario 2: Your wagon train decides to keep moving along the trail to prevent an attack. You are not able to trade with the Indians, so you do not get any new supplies. There is not another place to stop for another 200 miles so you will have to continue on with the chance of running out of supplies before you stop next.
Make a new blog post titled Indian Scenario. Question: Why did your group decide on the scenario? How will this scenario benefit or possibly harm your wagon train?
